Welcome to the GeoCon2025 Conference page. VAMLIS is a professional association designed to provide educational and networking opportunities for professionals who have an interest in mapping sciences in Virginia. The GeoCon is the major event VAMLIS provides and we hope that you are excited to join your peers at this year's conference!

The Event:

  • October 7th through October 8th.
  • 2-day GIS Conference with presentations from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm daily.
  • Snacks, drinks, and lunches provided daily.
  • Includes admission to the evening social/vendor reception.
GeoCon 2025 - Keynote Speaker

Luis E. Carrasco, PhD
Director, GIS Platform at the National Geographic Society

Luis Carrasco has over 20 years of experience in Geographic Information Systems applied to different fields. He is currently the GIS Platform Director at the National Geographic Society, which supports Geography and Cartography teams. Before his NGS assignment, Luis lived in Raleigh NC, where he worked with state government organizations in fields such as natural resources, parks and recreation, health informatics, and collaborated with the federal government in master address data management. Luis also worked with a private water utility in Maryland supporting and leading the modernization of its IT GIS infrastructure. Luis is originally from Callao, Peru, and obtained a master’s and a doctorate degree at North Carolina State University.

Map, Poster, and App Gallery & Contest:

Show off your work!
The GeoCon Planning Committee invites you to submit your Map and App abstract by September 15, 2025.

All Submissions must be COMPLETE by September 23 for judges to review prior to conference.

Individual Registration Pricing:

  • Late registration fees now apply: $500.

Hotel Rooms:
  • Conference Rate: $110.
  • Hotel room rates are applicable for single and double occupancy. Additional persons will be charged $10 per adult per night.  Hotel room rates are subject to applicable state and local taxes (currently 12.3%), unless tax exempt in the State of Virginia.

  • Alternately, conference attendees may contact the Reservations Department at (540)564-0200 or via email to reservations@hotelmadison.com and identify themselves as participants in the GIS Conference (GeoCon2025) to receive the special conference room rate. **Only make reservations directly with the Hotel Madison as outlined above to receive the conference rates**
  • Conference hotel room rates are valid Monday October 6th through Wednesday October 8th.
  • The VAMLIS block of rooms cutoff date is September 12th, 2025.
The Hotel Madison is sold out Tuesday October 7. If you missed out on your reservation, consider these other nearby hotels.
(Note: The Hotel Madison will validate parking vouchers for conference day guests for use of their garage.)
