We are happy to announce the 2024 map gallery and contest. The map gallery was updated in 2023 to include a renewed focus on professional cartography, continued focus on student posters, and a few additional contest categories. Enter for feedback from your cartographic peers and a chance to win!

 

The Gallery and Contest Will Feature Awards in 6 categories:

Best Cartographic Design will go to a map that is creative, visually pleasing, readily legible and employs both fundamental cartographic concepts and advanced detail in the display of geographic information.

Best Analysis will go to a map that displays quality in analysis of geographic variables, data integration, and an unbiased display of analytical results.

Best StoryMap or Web Application will go to an application that is thoughtfully designed with the end user in mind and incorporates a pleasant aesthetic as well as logical functionality.

Best Student Poster will go to a map or poster that is either cartographically or analytically focused and is created by a student.

Best Student StoryMap or Web App will go to an application that is thoughtfully designed with the end user in mind and incorporates a pleasant aesthetic as well as logical functionality and is created by a student.

Viewer’s Choice will go to a map or poster that is voted on by visitors to the map gallery.

Map Gallery & Contest Guidelines:

  • Abstracts (175 words or less ) are due on or before October 1. You will be notified when your abstract has been accepted and will be provided a link to submit for your map or app at that time.

  • A PDF or JPG of your map must be submitted by November 23 for review by the map gallery judges. (Entries submitted after that date are eligible for viewer’s choice, but not map judging)

  • It is strongly encouraged that a print version of your map be presented in the map gallery at the conference. Story Maps or Web Applications may be presented in the gallery on a laptop that you provide.

  • Easels and binder clips will be provided. Please bring poster board or request it ahead of time.

  • Entrants are encouraged to be in the gallery at a specified time during the conference to answer any questions about their maps and mingle with other participants.

  • Winners will be announced and awards will be handed out at the closing group session of the conference.

Deadline for submissions is October 1, 2024.
